Check Nexus Details for a State

When your business approaches or establishes Nexus in a state, you can review the factors that contributed to it. The State Nexus Details page in Galvix provides a breakdown of how Nexus was triggered, helping you validate the data and take necessary actions. You can get to this page by clicking on the respective state on the map provided on the Nexus Tracker page.

Economic Nexus Insights

Economic nexus is established when your sales or transaction volume in a state exceeds the thresholds set by that state. On this page, you can:

  • See the Lookback Period of the state. This is the timeframe considered for determining nexus, as per state regulations.
  • View the minimum economic threshold required for businesses in that state (e.g., $100,000 in sales or 200 transactions).
  • View the Registration Deadline of the state. This is the time frame within which a business must register for a sales tax permit after establishing Nexus in that state.

You can compare these state requirements with your transaction data within the state’s lookback period. You can also click on ‘View Transactions’ to see the specific transactions that contributed to crossing the economic nexus threshold.

Physical Nexus Insights

Physical nexus occurs when your business has a tangible presence in a state, such as an office, warehouse, employee, or inventory storage. If Galvix detects physical nexus, this section will:

  • Display the state’s physical presence criteria for establishing nexus.

This section will also show the number of employees or establishments that you have in this state. You can click ‘View Physical Presence’ to review the physical locations linked to your business in that state.

Next Steps & Compliance Actions

If you have established nexus in a state, you need to register for a sales tax permit. Each state has a specific deadline for registration after nexus is established, which can vary. Some states require immediate registration, while others allow a grace period. Missing this deadline may result in penalties and interest on unpaid taxes.

Before registering, it's important to verify that the transactions or physical locations that triggered nexus are accurate. If you find any discrepancies and need guidance about your compliance obligations, you can contact us at support@galvix.com.
